Kes is a member of the Gruenormark Legion of Liberty charter. He is nicknamed so because he is from the Kestrinal Province of Scurn. He starts out in Grimhall as a Candidate. Kes's reason for joining the Legion is to avenge his sister, Reena, who was kidnapped and taken into slavery.
Plot
Kes first appears as a candidate for the Legion of Liberty. After an emergency event forces the team to travel to New Elid, he is promoted to full member; just before returning from his mission, though, he and Sap are attacked by a poker named Germ, and Kes becomes addicted to adoxipham. He suffers increasingly severe withdrawals during their travels, ultimately ditching his group to obtain the drug from a group of Crimson. The Crimson capture him and take him to a grimhall. After the team arrives to rescue him, they kill him to put him out of his misery.

- Kes uses the alias "Halius Dryhem" to board the Redsquall Slut. His fake identification number was 73645-371.
- He is the first person depicted (in order of published works) to become addicted to Dox (Malinka is the first addict depicted, though she was already addicted prior). He is shot by a poker named Germ with a retrofitted Anderman T44K wrist rack called "Little Skulf".
