Gruenormark is one of the oldest nations in Lesser Galwyndor, having been around since before the time of the Great Purge, though then it was just a small city-state called Gruen. It is ruled by the House Jerinsen from the seat at Fairstone.

People of Gruenormark are referred to as being "Gruenor." When it was called Gruen, the term was "Gruenish," which matches the language.

Allies

Andermark, Ildoria, Terismark, and Lothlan are allies.

Rivals

Averia, Aeryl, and Scurn are all rivals of Gruenormark. Gruenormark's embargo on Scurn elicited animosity from Averia, and because of Averia's close relationship with Aeryl, Aeryl followed suit.

History

Gruenormark, shown in green.

Gruenormark is one of the few remaining great dynasties, having existed since before the time of the Great Purge, though in those days is was a small city-state called Gruen (this city no longer exists, though the ruins can still be seen). In fact, it was the assassination of the Gruen king, Ealred 4 vig Brynsen, by Draol vormongers which led the nations to form a coalition and partner with the Eari in order to rid the world of magic. During the Purge, a Gruen cavalion commander named Genther Stormloft would return from Meralia to take part in the extermination. Once Gruen was liberated, a new king, Devonian 3 vig Skeller was installed, though he was also later assassinated, and the royal House Skeller banner emblem would changed from a regular stallion (which was also used by House Brynsen) to Thurreliot, which would be the banner of the royal house in the region until present day.

Once the city-state of Gruen began to grow into a sizeable region, people began referring to the entire region as "Gruenmark," as at the time it was customary to suffix places of significance with "mark." It eventually evolved into "Gruenormark" due to linguistic drift and external cultural influences, particularly from the northern neighbors of what is now Averia. The then-Enildu merchants would call the locals "Gruenor" with the pronunciation closer to "grooner." This make the base one syllable "groon" instead of two "grew-in."

Provinces

Gruenormark is made up of six provinces:

Gruenormark is rich in culture. They pride themselves on being skilled at all things equine, especially riding. In fact, if someone falls off a horse in Gruenormark, they must apologize to the horse for being an unworthy rider or else they suffer bad luck. The Gruenor army is said to have the best caval (cavalry) in the world.
