Genther Stormloft is the lead human legend unit of the Champion Craft. He is the commander of the Green Legion (the Champion Craft). He is important in the Dreadgate Game, as he was the leader of the allied force that cornered the Glyphmaster, a Draol mage named Atury, which caused him to create a Keldra Gateway that brought a large number of people to the world of Errod.

Biography

Genther Stormloft, whose birth name was Genther Marlven, was the second son of aristocrat parents, Dwynnel (mother) and Errick of House Marlven. Errick was the Lord of a small Gruenish province called Sidan. Both Genther and his elder brother, Derrion, were groomed for military life, being that they could theoretically rise to prominence within Gruenish society through military service. Since only those of means, at that time, owned horses, they began military service as cavaliers.

Shortly after enlisting in the Gruenish army as a regular cavalier, he wed the daughter of Lord Hamish of Blackway, a girl named Velana, which was an arranged marriage. She bore him one daughter, Rilene Marlven (nicknamed Rilly). This all took place while Stormloft was in the 4th Cavalion and stationed at Fellhorn Rock.

After just three years in the Gruenish army, Genther was given command of the 8th Cavalion, a unit made up of 30 horsemen; this was a cavalion of the 5th Royal Legion, which defended the city-state of Gruen. He and his family relocated to the capitol city, where they were given a sizeable officer's villa. By this time, he had already fought in several skirmishes with an invading force out of Cruthia, where he earned the nickname Stormloft because he was "like a storm aloft a horse." At this time, Stormloft's plan was to continue serving honorably until the time he would assume Lordship over one of his father's lesser estates, as it was known that his older brother was set to inherit Lordship over Sidan.

Attack on Gruen

Stormloft was present during the attack on Gruen by a team of Draol vormongers, where he acted in his standard role as commander of the 8th Cavalion. He led a charge on the marshaled enemy forces, which were Cruthians being manipulated by the Draol, outside the city gates. Once the Draol began using their powers, the Gruenish forces retreated within the city walls to regroup. It was during this chaos that Stormloft encountered Anocast, the Eari advisor to King Ealred 4, who informed him of the plan to dispatch messengers via ravens and on horseback (to spread the word to the Eari Council about what was happening here). This proved fruitless, however, as the Draol wizards conjured up a lightning storm, which eviscerated all the birds and messengers (lightning was especially effective against the Gruenish armor). Stormloft, acting quickly, took it upon himself to act as the messenger to testify at a Meeting of Lords in Meralia. To do so, he first had to strip himself and his horse of all armor, essentially riding bareback through the lightning storm.

This decision would come to create an internal struggle, as he had been forced to act out of duty without regard to seeing to the safety of his wife and daughter. His journey to Meralia and beyond would see him sometimes regret leaving them behind, and not knowing what fate befell them haunted him; this is also a major driving force in his dedication to the Great Purge, however.
