A DIM charge, or "Darkness-Inducing Mask charge", is an explosive that is used to temporarily created a dark environment. It functions like a mortar round, but does not require the firing mechanism. Once a DIM charge is fired, a broad field of light-refracting energy spreads out across the sky, giving an offensive force the advantage of darkness during daylight hours. Effects last around three minutes. They are also called by the nickname "dark bombs" or "Donnie Bonnets".
They can come in varying sizes, from smaller grenade sized to larger, artillery sized versions that can cover entire battlefields.
