Castus Render is a Litus and the youngest member of the Night Helm. He participated in the rebellion during the Ildorian Revolution. Following the revolution, he went into exile with the remaining Violet Helm members and currently acts as a freebadge mercenary in The Verges.
Castus is noted for never speaking, unnaturally exceptional combat skills, and extreme calm under pressure. The other members of the Violet Helm are fond of saying of him, "He should have been of the Gold." His weapons of choice are the dual midsword, yet he rarely draws his weapons because he mostly doesn't need them.
History
Castus Render is thought to have originated from the island of Shrane due to his predilection for unarmed combat. No one knows for sure where he originated, due to his presumed inability to talk. He joined the Ravenhelm at around 16 or 17 years of age (the youngest person in history), where he was recognized immediately as a prodigy with unarmed combat, knives, and swords. He showed up one morning out of the blue to try out for the elite unit, and proved himself worthy by besting two of the best fighters in the Star Helm unit. He was allowed to remain in the selection course, despite not having been a member of the Ildorian military. Once he passed and was placed in the Secondary Helm, he made a slot on Night Helm within several weeks of passing selection. He was thought to have been next in line for promotion to Star Helm prior to the revolution.
Because of his small stature and unique combat style, he was chosen to train the females in Secondary in hand-to-hand combat and swordplay. Because of his tutelage, his student Orlene Pace was able to beat out several more-experienced candidates to earn her spot on the Dark Helm.
