Venicus Mor is one of the main protagonists in Path of the Outrider, the first book in the Everwind Series. As a teen he was destitute and worked as a shit hauler. He had no friends outside of Janden Cross and Boh Dimwood.
History
Venicus was born in Listhaven in the year EE 11,320 and raised there solely by his mother, Erissa Mor (a Jack Tracker prostitute), after the Black Sam killed his father, Dnestin Mor. Venicus spent his entire life hustling the streets and markets for survival, working as a dungcarl in the shit fields. He was sold into slavery to the Crimson by his best friend, Janden Cross, who received 12 Linnish Erons. Janden ultimately used the money to pay for sex with Erissa.
Apprenticeship
Because he had always harbored a secret wish to be a part of something that takes him far from Listhaven, he attempted to get hired on with the Outriders. They turned him away, however, due to his lack of experience. After being sold into slavery, his experiences while in captivity ultimately led to him fulfilling all the requirements to become an apprentice outrider. Instead of killing Venicus under Universal Law for the crime of Emblem Fraud, the stationmaster, Boren Addlegard, instead allowed Venicus to apprentice under Lukas Gloomer. What tipped the scales in his favor was the vow he had made to Serika to deliver an item to Talmage's brother at Linsingram College. During his interrogation, he refused to disclose the contents of the device and the destination, which impressed Boren. Venicus was given Fever, the haers of the late Edulon Dane, along with a pay advance to get outfitted for training.
