The Aerylothian Civil War was a bloody war in the early Age of Chaos that split the realm of Aeryloth into Lothlan and Aeryl. It began in the year 6,716 and lasted until 6,730.
Cause
In early 6716, miners discovered a vast silver mine near the current-day city of Nalt. At the time, the land on which the Thunoctian Mines laid were under the stewardship of House Turcott, the largest vassal to House Brant, which ruled Aeryloth. Lord Jamond 2 of Turcott offered to pay a liberal tax on all silver brought forth from the mines to King Pyloff of Brant, but because of the size of the deposits there, the king dispatched a battalion to seize control of the mines completely. Rather than go to war, Jamond 2 asked for a Meeting of Lords whereby he would present his case to the vassal lords in accordance with the law. He wished to stake his rightful claim. During the meeting, however, Jamond 2 was arrested and tried unjustly in a kangaroo court, then promptly executed for treason. This bought House Turcott the sympathy of several of the other houses, and they retaliated against Brant's forces in the first of many skirmishes that would mark the bloody civil war to follow.
Another exacerbating factor was that Pyloff's daughter, Menovia was previously arranged to marry Jamond 2's son, Jamond 3 of Turcott, but when the war broke out King Pyloff rescinded the arrangement. Menovia ultimately defected with two of her father's vassals in tow, which is considered to have helped turn the tide in Turcott's favor. The defection would later lead to the building of the Menovian Arch in Jura.
The war lasted for 14 years until the Truce of Yord, which was brokered by Jamond 3 and Lord Teldrew of Althorra. Pyloff reluctantly accepted the terms at the pleading of his vassal lords, and new borders were drawn up and agreed upon. Aeryloth was split into Lothlan and Aeryl, with House Turcott assuming sovereignty over Lothlan. To this day, tensions remain between the two countries, and can most noticeably be seen in minor skirmishes along the two border outposts of Camp Yord and Ilgard.
