The Etherwood tree is said to be the oldest type of tree, according to an ancient creation myth of dwarfs. As such, some also believe the tree to possess magical power, which is why it was used extensively in potions, tinctures, and spells in the days before the Great Purge. The tree is rare in present-day Galwyndor, and frequently harvested by grow-poachers for use in magical talismans and amulets (all frauds and snake oil). A number of countries have listed the tree as a protected species at the behest of the Arkaeni Order, who also maintains a small orchard on the grounds of the Atheneum, which is heavily guarded.
