Template:Infobox nobility Daeken is a title of nobility, similar to a Duke. Some countries, such as Averia, called it a daekus instead. The female counterparts are daekeness and daekussa. Only those of a Royal House typically carry this title, with those of the vassal houses carrying the lesser titles, such as earlen or baeron, though there are exceptions (such as Daeken Vard). Daeken and Daekenessi who are successors to the High Seat carry the title Crowndaeken or Crowndaekeness (or equivalent; see Averlyn of Sable), but only if they do not already carry the title prince or princess. Females also only typically carry the titles Daekeness and Daekussa through marriage, however, sometimes one will be given the title in absentia. The Daekussa of Highthrall is Averlyn of Sable, who is not married.
Daekenships typically convey lands to the title holder as well, and in the case of a province, the daeken would then be the de facto governor of said lands. In cases where a daekenship covers a city, these titles are more a formality or an honorary thing, rather than a lordship over the settlement. For example, Walder of Brant is the Daeken of Thurwich, a province. As the brother of King Wellen 15, he has been given stewardship of the province. However, Falder of Brant, the king's son, has only been given a daekenship over the city of Elidel, an honorary title.
