Aturian is the secret writing system of the Draol mage Atury. He created it to encrypt his notes pertaining to secrets he discovered, particularly in relation to glyphs and pronunciations. It is technically not a language, but just the writing system. When used as a writing system, the characters are benign, which was intended to mask the power of the glyphs when enchanted. An example of these glyphs in action can be seen in the Gateway Glyphs, which are part of the game Glyphmaster's Gateway. The game uses 25 of them.
Alphabet
The Aturian alphabet contains 42 characters, represented by the glyphs in the thumbnail image; the glyphs for the numbers 0-9 are not shown. It is a phonetic alphabet, and each character contains two connecting serifs so that words may be joined and separated by spaces. It should be noted that no vowels contain high ascenders, and only the vowels contain low descenders. Some vowels also contain accents, which change the pronunciation of the vowel. Double characters are not used, but represented by a single dot above the character that would repeat (for example, the two t characters in the word little; the two t letters would be replaced by the t character with a dot over it).
Notes
- The r character is the only consonant with accents; when there are two accents above, it produces the sound of er, as in swimmer or herd.
- The alphabet does not contain the letters c, q, or x.
- The alphabet has characters to represent ch, sh, th, ai (as in the capital I sounded in words like file), and oo (as in the oo sound produced in the word book or wood).
