Mister Helvidge is a fictional character created by the twins Hale and Gale as a prank on the people of Overvale. Since the village is in complete isolation, it is cut off from the outside world. The boys created Mr. Helvidge to see who would be dumb enough to believe in him, despite all evidence to contrary of the possibility his existence.
