In the note he leaves for the Emperor, he ends with the words: "I come as freedom and as love and as empathy - NOT AS HATE" This is a reference to the anonymous philospher Athenatos, as the letters in "NOT AS HATE" are an anagram for Athenatos. He is the secret writer of Revelation of Influism under the pseudonym Aethenatos, and used his knowledge of the personalty and ideology of Rinden Dane, founder of the Legion of Liberty, to spread Influism while in captivity at Wornspire. He is also the creator of the Lightsprawl Order and the one they call the Lightsire. He used Sigilus the Overseer to recruit members and do his bidding through a series of notes laced with a hallucinogenic drug; the letters prompted visuals which Sigilus took to be spiritual epiphanies. He knew Sigilus would be susceptible to these from the few meetings he had with him when he was boy; Patrin and his sister would visit the estate of House Erbane every summer where Sigilus was the haers trainer. He needed the cult to facilitate his escape from Wornspire; he uses the Legion of Liberty as a tool to fight back against oppressors and dictators like the Emperor. |
