It was once a favored title over kingships primarily in Goldenmark before it slipped into to a system of tribal leadership. There is currently only one emperor, Vralius Claverian, who gave the title to himself, although he chose to take it one step further with the self-title High Emperor.
An 'empress is the wife of an emperor. There are currently none of these.
