A turf racer is a motor vehicle that carries up to two riders, similar to the way a motorcycle or a jet ski does. They run off Proto-power. They first appear in Outrider; Talmage manages to escape Wornspire with Serika on a turf racer, which ends up running out of fuel.
Turf racers are one of only a small number of non-animal driven modes of transport. Because proto-power is so rare and expensive, and because parts are hard to come by, turf racers are not very common. The Clavic military is known to use them.
