An Overlay Realm is one of the various planes of existence. They were inadvertently created when the gods made the sun, moon, and stars as a gift to Grellis. They are different aspects of visual perception, separated from one another, and the concept is that when they are overlaid together the entire picture is formed as the material lay. Each realm has different properties, and even different entities that inhabit them. It is possible for some entities to move between lays. The Eldinar had the power to travel between lays unimpeded.
There are several:
- Material Lay - the physical world, fed light by the sun, moon, and stars
- Ethereal Lay - the dream world, fed light by the stars
- Moon Lay - the reflection world, fed light by the moon
- Celestial Lay - the vivid world, fed light by the sun
- Shadow Lay - the shadow world, devoid of all light
