It differs from the similar system of Salarian, the most common spiritual system throughout the realm, in that it also includes some elements of polytheism.
Salarian is the most common type of spiritual system, being practiced in varying forms throughout every region, but Catican is predominantly practiced in the southern regions, particularly the island of Linmark.
Catican uses a religious text called The Akona, which consists of several books:
- Book of Seeds - an account of how the ideology came about, mostly regarding the ascendance of a mysterious acolyte named Shein
- Book of Whispers - on communication
