The Messenger is the key gamepiece in Jeksey. The Messenger can be any of the other Jeksey pieces, and before gameplay begins, each side chooses a piece to act secretly as the Messenger. If this piece makes it to the other starred side, it wins. If a Messenger gets captured, it loses.
