"Surely you don't intend to rob it. The vault is in impenetrable, even to its keepers. Even so, attempting such a degree of madness would awaken the full might of the Hand of the Gale, and surely the Church would persuade any number of kingdoms to participate in your demise." - Brand, to Wedge in Path of the Outrider

The Vault of Wonders is a hidden catacomb contained deep below the Shrine of Tesh by Saent Dothen, and is said to contain many treasures that have been locked away since antiquity. It is inaccessible, even to the Tethuric Church who currently owns it. This vault is heavily guarded by the Hand of the Gale, as the Church retains the hope that they will one day discover a way to unseal the vault.

Also, unknown to anyone, the vault contains the Meninar-stone, which was the Eari Stone used against the Draol mage Atury during the Great Purge. The presence of the stone is the reason for the abysmal state of the Verges, as vordark is known to drain its surroundings over time.

History

During the Great Purge, the Tal Calar would encounter magical items in addition to magickers. These items could not be leeched by the Eari stones unless they were first activated, releasing the magical energy. As long as these objects remained intact, they could be placed and used, such as for temporary protection. This fact was most famously employed by King Wulgár of Maldenon during the construction of the massive multilevel labyrinths beneath the Hall of Deranon. He ordered scholars to transport rune-laden stonework to offer an additional layer of protection to the project.

If a magical object was detected by the wraighs, Tal Calar made arrangements and the relics would be collected. An attempt would be made to activate an artifact so that the magic could be drained. Those that could not be activated would be locked away inside a vault at Castle Lakenbrad until everything was relocated to what is now known as the Vault of Wonders as a result of the Time of Decay.
