The Afterglade is the paradise beyond the caverns of Overvale where the elderly go as an afterlife during a special ceremony called The Transfer. What is unique about the Afterglade is that it has an atmosphere that is toxic to all but the elderly, who have lived long enough to adapt to this atmosphere. What the people of Overvale are not told, however, is that the Afterglade does not exist. The people of Overvale also await the arrival of a prophesied one called the More-walker who will have the ability to travel to the Afterglade from birth.
