Outrider cases are specialized lock boxes used by Outriders to transport items. They contain 8-digit serial numbers and can only be opened by an Outrider vault. They are made of darkmetal, and are virtually indestructible. Apprentice outriders usually carry empty cases, so there is little risk of losing important cargo.
It is also customary for an outrider station to keep the apprentice's first delivered case, which is saved and then given to the outrider to keep upon retirement.
Rewards
Outrider Stations offer a reward for cases brought in by regular citizens. The rewards are offered at a fixed rate, regardless of the value of the contents within. The moneys are handed over only after the claimant is cleared of suspicion, as a precaution against paying people who rob Outriders. This procedure is first seen in Outrider when Mr. Scott and Nine return the case that had been left behind by Edulon Dane's killers.
