Summoning was a magical action that enabled one to transport a creature or person from another location. This was often followed by attempts to control the summoned entity through various methods. The summoning of an individual without their consent was one of the acts barred by the Ygwer Code.

Utilization

Summoning was a difficult act to perform, as it required a magic user to first know the location of the subject. This was necessary because a temporary portal would need to be created in both the subject's location and the summoner's. A link to the subject made this easier; often a tuft of hair, a horn, or other body part from the same type of creature was used to create the link. More advanced mages could forego this step, however. Then the mage would have to connect their power across the spacial divide in order to build the portal at the other location; they did this through bridging. Once the portal was opened on the other side, they could use their link or pure force to bring the subject through.
