A grimhall, also called a slaughterhouse, is an illicit place where bandits such as the Crimson bring people to harvest their flesh for consumption. In more remote areas, the meat is intended for the captors, while in cities the meat may get sold for profit. Victims are often simply kidnapped off the street, members of rival gangs, etc.
Victims are typically kept in a holding area against their will until they are brought to a separate area for butchering. Some are butchered completely, while others (such as in the case of Anya) are butchered over time. Some places will feed the captives in order to prevent atrophy, while others do not. Anya describes hearing some of the others eating rats alive in the darkness.
Appearances
In Grimhall, Kes, a member of the Legion of Liberty, is captured by Crimson thugs and brought to one, where the rest of his group has to rescue him. While there, they rescue other victims, including Anya, the protagonist of Wornspire.
