The Eldinar were the predecessors to the Inar, or elves. The Eldinar were androgenous, immortal beings, who could not procreate or fashion new races or creatures. They could, however, wield magic and travel unimpeded between all the Overlay Realms.

According to Grellism, they predated the original gods, with the exception of Grellis, the sentient primordial stone deity responsible for creation of the world. To make them, Grellis used pure essence of itself, or Soul Stray (called omnifex by the Eari), which made them purer than even the later gods, who were not made as pure. It is said that they were placed on top of Mount Ulfinai because it is "where the land meets the sea and sky."

Creation

According to the ancient religion of Grellism, the Eldinar were created by Grellis as the fourth and final creature, but before it made the gods. The existence of the Eldinar ultimately led to the creation of the trolls, goblins, ogres, and krakari, followed by humans, dwarfs, and helimer by the gods Orend, Drend, and Helirend. Thus was all because they were jealous of the Eldinar.

Fall of the Eldinar

The non-elf races (humans, dwarfs, giants, helimer, attawa, and jrel) possessed only the lesser essences, being that they were not created by Grellis. The Eldinar possessed pure Soul Stray, which always made the gods jealous, as they were made with half Soul Stray, and half of the lesser essences. It came to pass that the gods Drend, Orend, and Helirend sought to banish the angel M'ranin and the Fouled Seven to the Shadow Lay, but to do so they needed Soul Stray to trap them there. Rather than take any Soul Stray from celestials, which would weaken them, they conspired to steal it from the Eldinar. Since they did not have the power to steal it, they used the angel of deception, Fethylden, who tricked the Eldinar into giving up some of their omnifex, which made them lose their immortality. In doing so, they became the Inar, or elves.
