A '''caval''' is, in short, a cavalry. It refers to the military unit comprised solely of soldiers on horseback (a cavalier). Like other types of military units, the caval is broken up into various subunits, and while a typical legion was comprised of about 4-5000 men (different from a Roman legion), around 300 of these would be caval. These 300 would be broken up into 10 distinct subunits of 30 ''cavaliers''. These subunits are called ''cavalions'', and each would be led by a commander. | A '''caval''' is, in short, a cavalry. Gruenor Caval
The Gruenor army is said to have the best caval in the world, being that they excel at all things equine, and this dates all the way back to the 3rd Great War, when it was just a small city-state called Gruen. As an example, the city of Gruen and its palace citadel of Eldstone was always guarded by the 5th Royal Legion. The 5th caval was comprised of 10 cavalions. Famously, Genther Stormloft started his military career as a basic cavalier, ultimately working his way up to commander of the 8th Cavalion. After the Draol attack on Eldstone, which led to the Great Purge, Stormloft would eventually rise to take command of an entire allied force.
