New page

Animal-Powered
Transportation in the Everwind setting is diverse, though because of the times and the scarcity of parts and power, animal-powered methods are far more common than other methods. The horse is the most common, though some may ride mules, donkeys, and even brenyen. Carts and carriages are also commonly horse-drawn, particularly coaches, such as those used by Modley, Burns and Co.. Other hauling is usually done by oxen or brenyen (caravans, etc.).

Turf Ships
Turf ships are land vehicles powered by sails. They are sometimes augmented with other propulsion systems (electric boosters, proto boosters, etc.). These ships are usually only found in the Verges because of the high prevalence of wind there. Just like water ships, turf ships are capable of sailing into the wind by use of the sails and the keel, though unlike water ships, the keep is above the hull (a top-keel). Most of these ships have wheels, but some are capable of limited gliding (flying a few feet off the ground).

Water Ships
Water ships run the gamut of technology as well. Many ships are wind-propelled, with sails, because of the limits on fuel and proto-power. Other ships exist, and each country has a navy. The more affluent nations and companies are able to use proto-power.

Fossil Fueled
Where animal-driven vehicle and transport is not used, the next iteration on the technological scale is that which utilizes fossil fuels or electricity (usually wind-powered electricity). Crude machinery typically powers these machines, and because the process of refining such fuel isn't a priority, machines of this nature tend to be smaller, one or two-man operations.

Proto-Powered
At the higher end of the spectrum of transport are the Proto-power machines. These machines, such as Turf Racers and the luxury Reed Farish vehicle, utilize the most advanced and preferred method of power, but because proto-power is rare and expensive, these vehicles are also rare. Any that do not belong to the rich (you will never see a Reed Farish outside of the ruling elite) will be cobbled together with any spare parts that can be found.

Air Ships
Air ships are the rarest of all types of transport, and only the richest have access to this type. Because there is real focus on refining fossil fuels, all air ships are basically proto-powered, and because of the sheer amount of power required to run them, even the wealthiest will choose a different mode of transport if they can avoid the cost of using an air ship.
