They fled to that realm to avoid being killed by the [[Tal Calar]], and because they stayed too long they became nightwraiths. The nightwraiths, which were not susceptible to the powers of the stones, were given enchanted weapons so that they could kill the Tal Calar undetected. Once this took place, a [[sorinar]] elf named [[Count Thropo]] stole the stone, as his diminished state of vitality allowed him to handle the artifact, which the nightwraiths could not.
