The Codex Antifexa were a set of eight instruction manuals left by the Eari that explained in great detail on how to use the Eari Stones. They were written jointly by Jeron the Blind and Salora.

One book was provided to each of the Tal Calar, and each was written in the most common tongue of the race receiving the Stone. The attawa, who did not have a written version of attawan, were also provided with an interpreter until the contents of the Codex could be memorized by its keeper, who would then pass the knowledge on orally.

It should be noted that at the time, the Eari did not know that the stones would also target creatures with natural fex, so this knowledge was not included in the codices.

Organization of Material

Each manual was arranged into six parts:

  • Section One: The Nature of Antifex - The Codex begins by explaining antifex, its properties, dangers, and how the stones use it to destroy magic.
  • Section Two: Duty of the Tal Calar - The next portion details the importance of the keepers, their duties, how to care for the stones, and how to maintain the secrets for all time.
  • Section Three: Wraighs - The third section explains what the wraighs are, their nature, and everything about them and how they were brought to the Moon Lay for use by the keepers.
  • Section Four: Detecting the Fex-Endowed - The fourth section explains how the wraighs are used to detect magic and how to form a portal through the Moon Lay to unleash them upon their prey, the fex-endowed.
  • Section Five: Wielding the Stone - The fifth section explains how the stone uses the wraighs to release magic so the stone can siphon it, trapping it forever.
  • Section Six: Appendix - The final section details instructions on how to use the stones on magical items, which require activation to destroy.
